Botox injections continue to be one of the most popular cosmetic treatments performed today and this is for good reason. As we age, the lines that are created by repetitive facial expressions begin to stick around long after the expression fades. Botox can help soften these lines and prevent them from getting deeper.
What is Botox?
Botox or botulism toxin type A is a cosmetic injection that blocks nerve signals which prevents the muscles from contracting. You will still be able to express emotion but the more exaggerated lines that appear with certain expressions will be softened. The result is a more relaxed and youthful appearance. Botox can also be used for preventative purposes by curbing the amount that the lines set in by preventing the amount that the muscles contract.
You May be Interested in Botox If:
- You have deep lines between your eyes (“11” lines) that make you appear tired, angry or sad.
- Your facial expressions cause wrinkles and fine lines around the eyes and forehead.
- You would like to begin some preventative procedures for anti-aging
The injection procedure itself is quick and relatively painless. You will begin by consulting with your injection specialist about your areas of concern. Once the proper treatment plan is decided, the area being treated will be cleansed and then injected with a specific number of units. This procedure should not take any longer than 15 minutes and has little to no downtime. It is recommended that you keep your head elevated for approximately four hours post injection while the injection settles. Also, it’s important to not manipulate or massage the area for 24 hours. Patients may experience some redness or swelling at the injection site but those side effects will typically subside within a few hours.
