Observations About Instagram
My very first impression of the photo of his operating room was that the operating lights were old. Really old. I hadn’t seen that style of light since residency decades ago. This Manhattan surgeon was very proud of his OR, obviously, because it was highlighted in his Instagram Reel with him entering and about to start a surgery. But…those lights! It made me wonder what else in that OR was old and not up-to-date, including his knowledge. This happens all the time: the surgeon is blind to what a simple image can convey to the viewer who has knowledge and insight into the field. I am certain as well, that they themselves don’t see the poor setup, the sterile field violations, the poor technique, the whatever. And, of course, it cannot be pointed out in the comments section, where it will be seen as snarky and mean.
